Sheriff Holder was elected Sheriff of Cheatham County
in 1998 and has held the position since.
The Cheatham County Sheriff’s
Department, under the direction of Sheriff John Holder, includes law
enforcement, corrections, drug enforcement, drug education and clerical
personnel. The sheriff operates his department on a $3 million
dollar The department’s primary function is to serve the citizens of
Cheatham County, 24 hours a day, seven days a week. The department now
has an online fingerprint machine and an Amber Alert Computer to help find
lost or kidnapped children. The department, along with the TBI, has set
up a system to monitor all sex offenders in the county. The Sheriff’s
Department has implemented an “Inmates to Work” program where as much as
500,000 pounds of garbage has been picked up over the
county. Trusties are utilized in construction, repairs and maintenance
of grounds and janitorial services in county buildings. The Sheriff’s
Department has added a substation in Pegram, which does not have its own
police department, to allow deputies to have a centralized location in
the southern part of the county. The substation costs nothing to the
county.
Overall, the department
continues to address and accommodate the current growth
in the county and prepare for the future
